Thanks to Ole (http://www.frisbeeblog.de) we could track some realy stupid bug down. The file which parses the xml file to Google Maps. So download the new version here.

if i use this code to insert the map i get an error. i changed the ditu_maps to ditu_map and now i can see the map - but i can not see any markers on the map…?

sorry fo rthe mistake in the function call (I should look more on the things i write

Marker problem: if you use the latest ditu version you shouldnt have any problems with the markers. Put the ditu_rss.php into the wordpress-root folder and thats it.
If it should work like taht could you please tell me your blog URL. Then I can have alook at the error message.

i have two more questions:
1. is it possible to limit the markers shown in the map - as an example to the latest 10 posts shown on the map?
2. if i click on the map to add a marker in the post area - and than click for a second time the first marker is still visible - tried to find out via the google maps documentation how to change this but with no access. how to change the addListener just to view the actual marker?

it is the first beta release, i didnt concentrated on more handling stuff - but all you said and more is in progress and will be included into the next version also the tagging will get more important.

Just grey? could you give a link to your wordpress blog?
Is your connection to slow - the images will not load?
Or you dont have a API key for Google Maps.
As I said it would be good to have a look into your source.

I apologize for my own ignorance.
It’s been awhile since I have workied on the site and didn’t realize I had an Adsense ad in that post. So basically the map is not appearing at all. I am sure I have not put in the correct code. I am so sorry to bother you.

If you have the GoogleMaps API it should work…
I have heard some problems with IE6 so the plugin is not compatible with all browsers … hope that will be done in the future. Give it a try and uncomment the ditu command and we will see…

ok.. you add the code into a post. Until now I never tried this, the plugin can be installed by adding the code line somewhere into the theme (sidebar or footer). Did you try to enter the command alone without google ads?

I get this error pasting the sample code into my footer:
Call to undefined function: ditu_maps() in [file path]
There you go .. and even such simple typo can drive you into hell… the command is ditu_map() sorry for that…

adminpanel - write … type in your words and choose a location on the map under the input form.. quite easy… and save… ahh yes.. there is a tag textfield… tag your post if you want, I will connect this with the UltimateTagWarrior Plugin in future… so you can browse by tags and locations.

Try to delete it like you would delete a post…
I understand this is still in Beta - but you are off to a great start and there is much potential!
For your bugging: I am getting an Operation aborted error in IE6 whenever the page is loaded.

it is not that difficult it is only an option question. Which post is connected with which. Sure you could connect all with eachother, or only the latest with the previous and so on. But as a goo dsolution you could mark a post as one to connect with an dthe you could choose from others which are marked as the same… for example… or you can say all posts of a specific category get connected… Yes it would work, I will put it on the list of optional features for the upcoming versions.

today i intalled the tag warrior 3.1 on my frisbeeblog, and now i can only tag with the warrior if ditu is deaktivated.
Because of that my Map is temporarily down and i will test the warrior.

Hi Ole, sounds quite bad. Could you expalin that a bit deeper. So that I can work on it. I aim up to combine them so that they can exist next to eachother and ditu is using it for tagging and that the tags are connected to lat and lng.

alles sieht eigentlich so aus wie es sein sollte, ich schreibe einen tag, klicke auf speichern, und das tag wird nicht gespeichert. In der db sind sie auch nicht. Also ditu aus - los taggen - ditu wieder an - die Tag Warrior Frontend Funktionen funktionieren, ich sehe die Tags, die Tag Verlinkungen und auch Tag RSS ist ok. Klick man im Adminbereich jedoch auf ein schon angelegtes Tag wird dieses nicht der Input-Box hinzugefügt, neue Tags eingeben geht, nur speichern geht nicht, aber das sagte ich ja schon.
Wenn du ditu mit dem Tag Warrior kombinieren willst wozu brauchst du dann eigentlich noch eine Tag-Funktion im ditu? Kann man die Tags für die Map nicht irgendwie aus den Warrior saugen? oder vielleicht sogar den Warrior um die Funktion “Automatic Map Tags” erweitern?
Na ich habe ja keine Ahnung von der Plugin Entwicklung, aber vielleicht kommst du ja so auf neue Ideen.

genauso hab ich mir das vorgestellt. Keine Tag Verwaltung mit ditu sondern die an den Tag Warrior abgeben. Muss aber erstmal wieder die Zeit finden um weiter entwickeln zu können.
Vielleicht schaffe ich es aber heute erstmal die Tagging Funktion auszubauen, so dass es erstmal wieder funktioniert.

The problem is that: the Tag Warrior Plugin and ditu dont like eachother at the moment, but it in future they should work together. To fix that problem - for the moment - I try to find time to release a tag free ditu version.

ich teste grad dein plugin - leider liefert mir die aktivierte und in der sidebar eingebundene karte unter dem internet-explorer ein fehlerfenster: “die seite www.madbutphat.de konnte nicht geöffnet werden - vorgang beendet”
im firefox funktioniert es soweit, aber die map zeigt keine fähnchen, weisst du rat?

ich sehen das die ditu_rss.php bei dir einen fehler auswirft. kann es sein dass du versuchst bilder mit einzubinden? wenn ja wird das der grund sein. das plugin ist noch nicht soweit das es bilder verarbeiten kann.
Bilder? Du meinst im Posting? Nein ich habe nur einen Testpost mit Text erstellt. Derfehler tritt schon auf wenn ich die Karte nur in die Sidebar einbinde:
Keine Pins unter Firefox und Fehlermeldung unter Internet Expplorer.
Arbeite übrigens mit einem Wordpress 1.5 .

Your plugin works great. The only problem I seem to have is that the map isn’t zoomed in by default, so you get a picture of the world and red markers. Is there anyway to set your plugin to zoom in to a certain amount by default.

I’m looking for a new Gmap plugin so I can evolve to the API 2 with little or no effort. Call me lazy. Ditu is sweet!
Here’s what I did over coffee this morning. Activated Plugin, created new page template ‘ditu’ and inserted the code after content, made a new page based on that template, added location using ditu map in post admin. Done!
I can see great potential here, especially the tagging of post/coordinates. Is the map being generated from an RSS feed? That is neat too. Please, here are some requests:
1. A map in the post admin is awesome for most users, I’d love to be able to manually input lat/longitude.
2. Default zoom/location/map type for both map and post admin gmaps.
3. Ability to link to the map location from the post - ie. ‘view post on map’ button.
4. More options for the Gmap info window - ie. excerpt, thumbnail support.
5. The ultimate - GPX file support. I’d love to be able to upload and associate an entire gpx file with a post somehow. This would be the coolest plugin ever.

This is a cool plug-in for travel blogs, I would pay for the following features:
Ability for authors to tag posts on a map through point-click, address and raw lat/long.
If an image is used in post it grabs a thumbnail and shows it in infowindow with the summary and other data like date/author name, etc.
A show on map button Like yongfook’s plug-in for posts

immernoch das gleich problem, hab auf wordpress 2.0.2 geupdatet, und unter firefox läuft es auch wunderbar, nur im internet explorer gibts die fehlermeldung und die seite schließt sich!

Hi all thankd for the great response. I am a bit busy at the moment so I am not able to catch up that fast But I read all your comments and try to help where I can. Sven - I really dont know why this is happening (IE crash) but I can imagine that the HTTP Request function I use is not IE compatible. I have it on my list for the next development, sorry.

I just did a clean ‘final’ install of a new blog, sorry wiped out my mapping experiments.
I’m going to try again. Ditu still is on my short list.
Here are my initial findings:
Ditu - Super easy for non-GPS folks. Point and click is the easiest for that set. Would love to be able to control multiple points better. Post to map link is not evident. Changing the default zoom/center is easy enough - just edit the code in the appropriate area - did it in the main map, not yet for the editor.
Geo-mashup - Single point per post, manual coordinate entry via Geo Plugin. Good admin options. Shows post with map, very cool. No thumbnail support.
Yongfook - Instant Map - Slightly different implementation than Geo-mashup. Geo-plugin interface. Thumbnail support. Having some issues with WP2.0.3, but could be related to htaccess, multi-blog conflict, or permalinks. Giving up showing post with map and this is near perfect.
Keep up the good work! I’ll be your PC, Firefox tester. How did you come up with Ditu?

How I came up with ditu? Quite easy I am interested in mapping, and I like the idea to have a location based history in a blog. A lot of people are writing about their holidays, experiences and so on - why not map them?
And I want to keep it simple also for people with no GPS or so.
But time is an issue, I am quite busy at the moment so need to fight for some free space to keep on developing.
So I hope to get some new things done in the next 2 or 3 weeks…
